After selling more than a hundred thousand copies of her work, Cecilia Curbelo has turned into Uruguay’s most successful children and youth author. Her books created a legion of faithful readers from 15 Latin American countries and Spain. She has a degree in Communication Sciences from the Catholic University of Uruguay and has written television, radio and theatre scripts. In 2012, she received the Bartolomé Hidalgo award, the greatest literary distinction of her country. Since that year and for four consecutive years she has also received the Golden Book award for the best-selling book, awarded by the Uruguayan Book Chamber. She was nominated three times as Woman of the Year in the Literature field.

In 2016, she received the Woman of the Year award for World Peace in Literature for the themes and approaches of her work. Several of her books have been taken to the theatre, by the readers, journalists and the media, such as the play Like You and Me which was based on her book The Other Life of Belén. The adaptation made by the author and a colleague won the Florencio Award for Best National Author Screenplay in 2018.
