The Girl and the Little Fish

One of Gabriela Mistral's very little-known poems in its original version accompanied by Alberto Montt’s talented hands.
Summary

On a February night in 1938, Gabriela Mistral was visiting writer Emilio Oribe in Uruguay when, suddenly, his little daughter burst into the room carrying a precious hidden treasure: a little fish.

Esther, the girl's name, had found it by the rocks of a Montevideo beach. The next day, inspired by what had happened the previous night,  Gabriela gave Oribe this poem as a gift.

Almost thirty years after this trip (in February 1967) and ten years since Mistral's death, "The Girl and The Little Fish" was published in the Chilean newspaper La Nación as an unpublished poem, which version has been recovered by Escrito con Tiza in an edition with beautiful illustrations by Alberto Montt.
