14th Compostela International Prize for Illustrated Albums, 2022
The sun, the moon and the rain have not been seen in the jungle for weeks and everything is wrapped up in a long night. The animals of the Amazonian forest - day and night, running, flying or swimming, roaring or cawing - concerned that they no longer recognize their home, embark on a journey to find out why there is no dawn.
The poetic text and the emotional treatment of color in Waiting for the Dawn are the tools used by Fabiola Anchorena to develop this necessary wake-up call in the face of the exploitation and destruction that the Amazon has suffered for decades. An album that also invites us to reflect on forest fires, a phenomenon that has accelerated in recent years due to the effects of climate change and that unfortunately becomes news every summer.
